02.14.07 HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Hello again! I appologize for neglecting to update the website on what has been happening over the last several months. I thought maybe you'd be more likely to forgive me on Valentines Day :) Since my last post, much has happened. Long story short, I am now the full-time worship leader at Touchstone Christian Fellowship. It has been challenging for me to sort of change directions in music from "guest artist/worship leader" to full-time permanent worship leader but I'm really enjoying it. Because I've been spending most of my time listening to and charting worship music...I haven't had much time to spare for writing. I have been working on some new worship songs so that keeps the creative juices flowing. I'm always looking for great worship songs so feel free to email me your favorites. I'm thinking of posting the set lists each week so you can see what we are singing over here. What do you think of that?

10.25.06 I'M BACK :)

Sorry for the long delay in updating the website! Life has been CRAZY busy getting the kids in school, looking for a home, working part-time and filling in for the worship leader while he was on vacation. No excuses.....I know! California is GREAT I must say. The weather has been unbelievable and I hadn't realized how much I'd taken for granted. I do however miss the bright wonderful fall colors of New England. There are some trees full of color here in Northern California but it's nothing like back East. Not much new to report on the music front, however there may be something in the works soon so check back! I'll be making weekly posts from here on out. Even if it's just to let you know what my favorite song is lately. ha :)

08.21.06 THE BIG MOVE

So here's the deal for those of you who are wondering where I'll be playing next ;) I'm in the middle of moving from the East Coast back to my home on the other coast..I'm going back to Cali (sing along). My husband is completely changing careers from TV News Anchor to "Pastor- in-training". We are both excited and sad of course because we will miss all the peeps in Connecticut. I will keep the website up to date on the move so check back often to see what's up. If you want to check out our new church just go here.

02.24.06 Purpose Driven

Hi all. Sorry it's taken so long to make this entry. I now have an extented version of my bio on the BIO page with all kinds of links to artists from the past as well as the people who have deeply influenced my sound and "shape." I'm reading The Purpose Driven Life right now.. hence "SHAPE." If you're curious, you should definitely pick up the book. It's reminding me of the things that matter and is keeping me focused. I'm also finding myself in a writing mode right now. It's funny, because for me writing songs comes and goes. Sometimes I'm so inspired and think of a million tunes to write, and other times nothing could make me sit down and write a song. Now that my kids are a little older, pre-school and kindergarden anyway, I guess I'm getting a little more alone time to be creative. The band is ready to work, so it will be fun having some new tunes to put together.

Does anybody read these? ha email me!

01.30.06 Retreat The women's retreat photos are now up. I led the music for the weekend and it was so great to hear a room full of women's voices. Beautiful. It was also really nice to get away and "play," as you will see. Girls just wanna have fun! One of the subjects the guest speaker focused on was friendships, and it made me woefully aware of what a better friend I could be. Life gets so busy I forget the importance of investing time in others. I've been making a lot of phone calls catching up with those I've neglected. :)

01.23.06 Nicaragua Dos I'm back, after an amazing experience in Nicaragua. There are now a few photos on the pics page. Soon I'll have more pics and even some videos too! The kids were wonderful, and they really took to our songs. The video will show you how joyfully they got into the hand motions (especially "Jump, Jump, Jump into the Light, Light, Light").

The poverty was shocking to me. I'd never been to a Third World country before and wasn't prepared to see shacks made of scrap wood and tin and babies and toddlers crawling around on dirt floors. Many of the one-room houses had nothing more than a bed and a single plastic chair inside. But I was also moved by how content, sweet and giving the people are. It gives me a completely different perspective on this American life we have and the things that are truly "needed."

If you'd like to read more about the trip and everything that happened in Nicaragua, I'll have my journal posted soon.

01.12.06 Nicaragua Well, here I am in Nicaragua. We are 4 days into our 5 day program in the tiny village of Haulover, and well over 400 kids are showing up everyday.

It's hot and humid here on the Caribbean coast, and we're getting tons of exercise in, as we hike about 6 miles every day. But the most important thing is that the kids are really responding to our music and our skits and stories.

After one more day here in Haulover, we will take the boat back down to Bluefields. Saturday night we will do the evening youth-oriented service, and I will put on a mini-concert. We`re taking tons of pictures and video, and we hope to have both up here on the site shortly after we get back. See you in about a week.

01.01.06 Grand Tour Happy New Year everyone! This week is an especially exciting one for me, because I'm about to embark on my first world tour. First stop...Nicaragua! Ok, ok, so it's not exactly a "tour," but I will be leading all the music for lots of children during a weeklong vacation Bible school in a tiny village called Haulover. I'll also lead the music for church services in some nearby towns. In Haulover there are no cars or roads, and it is only accessible by boat. (For photos, go to my pics page). One woman has been teaching Sunday school to about 150 kids all by herself there ... for the last 19 years. She once tried to put on a VBS for the surrounding villages and was overwhelmed when about 300 kids showed up! Since my husband and I lead the music for the kids at our church, and the other volunteers who'll be going with us run the children's sunday school for our former churches in Sacramento, we all plan to descend on Haulover and put on a rip-roaring, super fun, weeklong event. We will also be bringing school supplies, music books, CDs of new songs, boom boxes and more. And we'll even tackle a few repair projects at their little church. I'll be back in mid-January and will post pics as soon as possible.

12.17.05 Christmas Tune Hey. Thanks to everyone who sent such encouraging emails regarding the Joy for the Kids concert. It was so good to hear how much you enjoyed the song "Prepare." Many of you have asked if it's on one of my CDs. Unfortunately, I don't have a Christmas CD yet. Hopefully, I'll have one next year. :) In the meantime, as my gift to you, here's the demo version of the song in its entirety available until Christmas.

Prepare lo-fi or hi-fi

12.13.05 Christmas Fun It was another night of fun at the 2nd annual Joy For Kids Christmas fundraiser. My friend, famous WFSB weatherdude Scot Haney, hosted and starred in the event. He has a lovely voice and did a great job. btw, he's just as funny off-the-air as he is on tv. My very own husband, Steve Bunnell, who anchors the morning news on channel 3, joined me on stage for the song "Prepare," and he sang wonderfully. We even got a standing O! Other highlights of the evening included Steve's co-anchor Dawn Hasbrouck singing a duet with Scot ("Baby it's Cold Outside), weekend morning anchor Irene O'Connor's traditional Irish step number, including Scot's silly impression of Michael Flatley (Irene can really dance), the Three Tenors lipsynching extravaganza with anchor Al Terzi, chief meterologist Bruce DePrest and anchor/reporter Kevin Hogan (what a hoot). The amazing Praises of Zion Gospel choir also brought down the house. It was a blast, and Scot really outdid himself putting this thing together. More importantly, the evening raised $25,000 for the
Channel 3 Kids Camp, which gives underprivileged inner-city children the chance to go to summer camp for free. You can see some photos of the concert on the pics page.

12.12.05 Christmas Concert Whew! What a weekend. Two shows on Saturday and another Sunday night. Thankfully, they all went really well. The "Night of Joy" Christmas concerts were all packed. I've never seen so many people in our church! The choir and orchestra sounded great, and, of course, my band rocked. :) It was also a wonderful change of pace to have Bob Sirois sit in on two songs. His acoustic guitar work was elegant on "The Christmas Song" and "Lo How a Rose e'er Blooming." The band and I did my original Christmas song, "Prepare," Mercy's Me's version of "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," Steven Curtis Chapman's "Miracle of Christmas," and Cindy Morgan's "Follow That Star." Finally, I had a blast singing a gospel version of "Oh Happy Day," backed by the full choir. What fun!
Soon, we hope to have video clips here. In the meantime, check out the gallery on the pics page. If you missed this concert, you really must come next year. There will probably be another added show next year to accomodate the crowds.

12.07.05 Listen Ok! The site is coming along. You can finally listen to clips of my songs on the MUSIC page. That page will also let you buy or download my latest album, Release. There are some things still to come like snippets and downloads of my other albums.. and even video clips! I'm also thinking of including some songwriting samples -- letting you listen to works in progress. What do you think? Anything else you'd like to see here? Let me know.

shirls

11.19.05 Construction Oh my goodness we've been working like crazy to get this site together! I'm learning to do all kinds of things thanks to my amazing "code guy" Jerry Hall. Still have some MP3 files coming for you and some other cool stuff so keep checking back. Rehearsals for the Christmas concert are going really well and I'm so looking forward to it. Will have a special guest, Bob Sirois, coming in for a couple of songs in the set. You can check out his website on my links page.

10.24.05 Real Website & Concert Well, I finally have a "real" website up and running, thanks to my totally cool friend -- and designer -- Krista Roark. How do you like it? There will be much more soon.

The debut of the new site was timed to coincide with my latest gig, which my band and I just performed last night (Sunday, October 23rd). The crowd was great at United Church of Christ, Congregational in Newington, CT. They really seemed to enjoy it, despite the echoing acoustics.

The guys and I had a blast, cuz it was my first gig in CT with a full band. Joe Arabis and his Strat and Les Paul gave us the electric sound we lacked in our acoustic gig at Studio 150. In fact, Joe totally nailed the "Toad sound" for our one cover tune, Whatever I Fear.

Now we're all eager to get out and do it again. So if you have an open date, drop me an email.

The next gigs on my calendar are a couple of Christmas thingies. I've always dreamed of doing a Christmas album, and this will be the next best thing. First, I will be the featured performer for the Christmas Program at Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church December 10th & 11th. Be sure to get your tickets soon as these shows fill up fast!

And then I get to sing at WFSB-TV's Holiday concert. I'll actually sing a duet with my husband, who anchors the morning news at WFSB. The show is a wonderful fundraiser for the "Channel 3 Kids Camp," and it stars meteorologist Scot Haney, who happens to be a wonderful, Broadway-type singer. I'm pretty sure that show is Monday, December 12th, but I'll let you know when I know for sure.

Okay, for a first entry, this has probably been too long and too rambling. Sorry. Come back soon for more.

shirl.
